Spring Reels

Built to Perform!

Extension spring reels used for ergonomic handling systems are equipped with a ratchet. The user can pull out the cable or hose length he needs, then the ratchet locks in and cable and hose can be freely used. After use, a simple pull releases the ratchet and the spring rewinds the cable or hose.

Use our professional extension spring reels to reliably feed handheld tools and movable appliances in your workshop or recharge your mobile equipment: they are sturdy and adapted to demanding users.

We offer standard versions to supply electrical power, compressed air and water.

Look-out for our all-steel versions for utmost resistance to usage and wear. Our enclosed versions protect cables and hoses from falling debris and dirt.

On demand, we can add a ratchet to our generalist automatic spring reels ranges to transform them into specialized extension reels.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How can I extend the lifespan of the cable in my spring reel system?

Quality matters: make sure you use a solid, proven and tested reeling cable, sized to your reel and application. Conductix-Wampfler tests, recommends, and holds in stock suitable reeling cables.
The tension of the cable must be steady at start and stop of the movement and along the travelling distance.
The anchoring is sometimes neglected: use a cable grip (= sock) to transfer the pull deep into the cable with a spring to absorb shocks. For bigger cables, a bent anchor, or even an anchor drum is recommended. Conductix-Wampfler holds in stock anchors adapted to most cables and applications.
It is very important not to sharply bend the cable on a small roller: only use sheaves or diverters properly sized to the angle and to the minimum bending radius of the cable. We can recommend you the proper diverter if it was not installed up front.

My spring reel is not running smoothly, what can I do?

First of all, check if the application travel length, speed, acceleration and cable match the reel’s datasheet and restore the initial reel setup.
Carefully, slowly and safely release the pre-turns and reinstall the specified number of pre-turns (attention, the springs store high energy and to be safe, this action must be carefully done by trained technicians: when in doubt, ask our representative near you)
If you cannot resolve the problem, or if the reel’s datasheet does not fit the application anymore, call our nearest representative for assistance. In most cases, we can recommend a new setup for a Conductix-Wampfler reel, but sometimes a new reel will be required.

My application now requires more power and longer travel, can I change for a bigger/longer cable?

The reels and their slip rings are sized from initial specification, so the general answer is “bigger or longer cable may not wind properly, and higher intensity may overheat the cable or slipring ”.
However, if you send us a photo of the nameplate on the Conductix-Wampfler reel, or its original datasheet and specifications, plus the updated requirements, in most cases we can retrieve the design file and quickly tell you if higher power and/or longer cable still fits. Sometimes we will need to ask you for more application data.
